Our Original size was designed for those who like to keep a stock set up, but want some paint protection.

The XL version is about 1-2" longer and wider for those who run higher offset wheels that poke past the fenders.  They are also designed for trucks with larger tire set-ups. 

It really is a personal preference of how much protection you would like.
